Research Highlight:
Prof. Hsin-Jay Wu’s research focuses on advancing sustainable energy technologies through the design of high-performance thermoelectric materials, eco-friendly solid-state cooling systems, and defect- and phase-diagram–guided materials chemistry. Her work spans SnSe, GeTe, Bi₂Te₃, Ag₂Se, and emerging high-entropy systems, emphasizing strategies that enhance zT, mechanical robustness, and device-level efficiency for low-temperature waste-heat recovery below 250 °C. By integrating synchrotron-based characterization techniques—such as XANES, EXAFS, Laue diffraction, and nano-XRF—she uncovers dopant behavior, bonding environments, and phonon transport mechanisms that govern functional performance. A key contribution of her research is establishing direct correlations between intrinsic material zT and practical ZT_device, enabling more reliable evaluation of thermoelectric devices. Through this combination of fundamental insight and applied engineering, Prof. Wu’s work provides critical pathways toward greener thermal management and next-generation energy-conversion technologies.
